the "Rattler"
Had a great time with this one! For my first attempt at doing a super detailed build, and with lots of donated parts...(thanks Dave!) I was pretty pleased with the final car. Made it into a couple competitions and pulled a 1st place in one, and a Best of Show in another. Bear in mind, neither were an NNL meet but dragged home the Best of Show from an IPMS meet held here in my hometown of good ol' Pittsburgh. Very (very) little paint ever hit this rascal. Mostly laquer base metalizers, polishing powders and a lotta polishing and dry ragging. Attempted my first freehand graphic paintjob... trying to replicate a rattlesnake finish on the body panels which are also polished, clearcoated metalizers. Did I succeed? Well, you gots to be the judge of that one, but all in all it came out pretty interesting that's for sure! Thanks for peeking- and enjoy.
the weekend warrior Willys...
This beast started from the Revell SW&C drag car, but of course....didn't end up as one! Lots of chassis mods to get those fat wrinklewalls crammed up in there, and I got it as low and down on the asphalt as I could push 'er! Attempted my first "candy apple" single-stage paintjob when I finally got around to finishin' it up and I guess for my first urathane try....not too bad.
the Shirley Muldowney railer....one that never existed anyway~
Not as if ol' Cha-Cha ever actually piloted this, but if she had done a F/E railer, and had she asked yours truly to build her one, it would have looked just like this! And, as only fitting, after a couple meets and shows.... that this baby took First and Best of Show in both...the car was off to her rightful owner- Cha Cha (the Legend) herself. At this point in my building I was getting a better handle on the powder coating and "metalizing" techniques, as well as venturing deeper into and becoming more comfortable with detailing and bashing/scratch building. Have to admit, this was my first "successful" build in my opinion and it was a great learning experience.
my roundy-round car
This was my first try at a dirt track modified and all-in-all, I was pretty darn pleased with it. Did a lot of photo research and had a heap of help from Fred Sudlow from Fred's Resin Workshop and other friends familiar with this type of car. This monstrosity was a total "scratch/parts box" build and (I think) the body's from a Pinto F/C kit but wouldn't swear to it. Turned out a-ok but never made it to the shelf tho..... listed her on Evil-Bay where it fetched a decent price!
the Ford pick-'em-up build
Not real sure what year ford p/u this is (I think a '55), but I do know it was my first "truck" attempt. This was before I had done any airbrushing so the body was total rattlecan enamel. Not too bad for an outta the can spray I guess. Had a little fish-eye I never got around to polishing out and kinda rough but hey- it's learn as you go right? Still to this day I like this funky ol' truck! Would make a nice car trailer puller some day.....hummmmm
